Back Burke’s Bullet!
There’s racing today at Cartmel, Fontwell, Chelmsford and Ripon, but Nottingham is the pick in terms of class. There’s a rich handicap at 3.30 where Firing Apprentice, Jordan Vaughan, can shoot up even further in our estimation by landing the spoils on… You’re Fired! Karl Burke’s 5-year-old is in great form and has previously placed in Listed company. The Warrior is likely to be a threat, particularly if the lead is fiercely-contested and the race favours held-up runners.
The Listed Nottinghamshire Oaks is at 4.00, with Intimation’s late withdrawal throwing the race wide-open. Ed Dunlop has been in amazing form, so far this season and Sagaciously can carry Richard Kingscote to victory this afternoon. The Lawman filly won at Doncaster, carrying top-weight in a strong handicap, running on well to beat La Superba.

Vic’s Vaulting Key At Cartmel
Only Sussex Road looks truly out of contention, in the 3.50 at Cartmel. Tradewinds, Mr Steadfast, Anteros, Grove Silver and even Mahler And Me have the ability to go close, but Evan Williams’ Allez Vic is the tentative pick. The 10-year-old finished 3rd in significantly better company, at Ffos Las in April and a good round of jumping should just about see off rivals.
Only 4 runners will go to post, for the 3.40 at Fontwell and both King Of Milan and Spurned Girl might be well advised to pack a torch. This will be a 2-horse race between Paul Nicholls’ Abidjan and Neil Mulholland’s Pass The Time. Abidjan beat War Singer by 5-lengths at Newton Abbot, but the French gelding will find Pass The Time a lot harder to shake-off. She finished 4th in the David Nicholson Mares’ Hurdle, just 4 lengths behind Vroum Vroum Mag and she’s taken to just about come out on top in what should be an absorbing duel.
There are 2 UK evening meetings. Red Pike, Duke Cosimo, Eccleston, Mississippi, Grandad’s World, Adam’s Ale and Highland Acclaim all have strong claims in the 8.00 at Ripon, but Steve Prescott looks a terrific each-way value bet. Richard Fahey’s grey gelding appeared to have been over-raced, by the end of last season, but he should now be fully refreshed and Adam McNamara claims 7lb.
Escalating To Rise Above Rivals?
Tonight’s Chelmsford card looks impressive, with a pair of Class 2 races back-to-back. Escalating takes on Lucky Beggar and Bowson Fred, in the 6.40, while Sir Michael Stoute’s unexposed Musdam can build upon his excellent win at Leicester and win the 7.10.
More Action At Punchestown, Chantilly & Amiens
There are 7 races at Punchestown, beginning with a trio of chases – the first of which is at 5.50. Willie Mullins’ Devils Bride faces a big test, with both Gordon Elliott’s Bright New Dawn and Sizing Platinum arriving in good nick. The final contest on the card is a flat race, with Jessica Harrington’s Moone Dancer looking an interesting prospect.
Stéphan Cerulis’ Elusive Dancer should find friends in the market, for the Prix des Maîtres d’Equipage at Chantilly. There’s also a meeting at Amiens.
