6 UK Meetings, On Friday
We hope you enjoyed last night’s sensational action, at Sandown, which saw important victories for Global Applause, Pallasator, Time Test and Zonderland. There are no especially big races today, but with 6 UK meetings there is plenty of scope for betting.
Hannon Tugs Back Sean For Tiggaliscious
The 3.30 at Bath allows us to see debut performances from a number of interesting 2-year-olds, including Star Catch who is closely related to a Listed winner. This looks like an opportunity for Richard Hannon’s Tiggaliscious to get off the mark, though. The Acclamation filly should benefit from the return of Sean Levey, whom she performed well under at Windsor when pipped at the post by Sea Of Snow.

Georgia On Our Minds
Impressive apprentice, Georgia Cox, has been rewarded with another ride (Brighton, 3.20) on Pour La Victoire following the partnership’s success at Goodwood last week. This is a higher grade race and the 6-year-old gets a 4lb hike, but should still find enough to defeat both Monumental Man and Straits Of Malacca. William Carson is on-board Great Expectations, who looks a decent each-way bet.
The 3.10 at Haydock is an ultra-competitive handicap, with 17 runners expected to start. The step up in grade may prove too much, for both General Alexander and Avenue Of Stars and others are much preferred. Giddy left it just a little too late, on reappearance at Ripon, but there was a lot to like about her performance. She remains unexposed and the handicapper has been generous.
Distant Past Back To Winnable Mark
The 7.40 at Musselburgh has a decent purse up for grabs and has inevitably attracted some useful handicap regulars. El Astronaute will be amongst the favourites, particularly if the ground stays quick. Go Go Green saves his best form for this track, but the form points to Distant Past holding the 10-year-old. Distant Past is just 3lb above his last winning mark and Joe Doyle’s claim can unlock the door for him.
A quartet of very useful juveniles will contest the 7.30 at Pontefract, with Mark Johnston’s Yalta likely to be heavily backed. The Exceed And Excel colt made all on debut at Goodwood and appeared to be keeping plenty of his powder dry. Orewa’s brace of Beverley victories put the Helmet-sired colt’s name firmly in the hat. Wedding Dress and Cullingworth are both winners, although they will need to show much more this evening.
Purple To Reign
Too many questions remain, regarding the jumping ability of Tara Road and Jonathon Moore looks to have his work cut out aboard the Rebecca Curtis inmate in the 6.50 at Worcester. Presenting Arms should go close, but Purple ‘n Gold looks the best bet after getting back to winning ways at Haydock.
Further Action, In Ireland, France & South Africa
There are 7 races at Down Royal, the last of which is a 2m flat race at 8.35. Jimmy Breekie, Bosco Di Alco, Ard Na Carraig, Burndown and Blue Empyrean are all in with a shout, but John Fearne’s Two In One looks the best value. The race just didn’t pan out for him, at Roscommon and he’s much better than 6th-place suggests.
There’s no black-type action, at Auteuil (France) today, but the card is strong throughout with no shortage of prize-money on offer. Guy Cherel’s Valzan looks the one to beat, in the Prix Caldarium and the trainer will also have high-hopes for Momita Has in the Prix Spirou. South African racing fans can look forward to 10 races, at Fairview.
