There are 5 UK meetings, on Wednesday, as well as further action in Ireland, France and South Africa.
Lab Can Be Fab, For Her Royal Highness
3-year-old maidens will contest the 6.50 at Kempton, with Labyrinth on debut for Her Majesty The Queen. Sir Michael Stoute’s charge cost 260,000gns and the Lawman filly’s pedigree suggests victory at the first time of asking may not be beyond her. On The Bill ran on well at Wolverhampton and looks the pick of those with some experience. Megan Nicholls is given yet another longshot, to show her considerable skills upon, but with a couple of 25/1 winners already under her belt don’t be surprised if Roccor picks up at least a place for Richard Hannon.
A juvenile contest gets the ball rolling at Hamilton, with Boundsy looking to strike for Richard Fahey. The Dandy Man colt was certainly well-beaten, by both Who Told Jo Jo and Mama Africa, but should have gained much from his first outing. Bourbonisto looks the better bet though, after recovering from a bad start to finish 2nd on debut. The longer trip should not be an issue.
Tas Can Pass The Test
The 2.20 at Lingfield is a 6f handicap encounter, on the polytrack. Chris Dwyer’s Commanche arrives with decent form and has won at this trip on a variety of ground, on turf. This looks another great chance for Josephine Gordon to show what a brilliant apprentice she is though. She’ll pilot Tasaaboq, who hasn’t been too far away on the poly and Gordon’s 5lb claim can prove key. Multitask and Secret Witness both look decent each-way bets, with both carrying in-form apprentices who look too good for their allowances.
There’s an interesting card at Market Rasen and the 3.50 should be an absorbing handicap. The nomadic Le Bacardy has moved stables, once again and is now one of Grace Harris’ inmates. Jack Quinlan will be on-board Sir Note, an enthusiastic jumper who should appreciate the quicker ground. Ryan Winks has 3 2nd-place finishes already in this campaign (from just 6 starts) and Chestnut Ben now looks on a winnable mark.
Phil Can Thrill, Under Cobden
As with Kempton, today’s meeting at Newton Abbot doesn’t get underway until the early evening. The 7.10 is an extremely competitive handicap, with Matt Griffiths on-board Unison, a horse with a 50% strike-rate over fences. Harry Cobden’s form is far too good to ignore though, with 3 victories in his last 6 attempts. He takes the reins of Paul Nicholls’ French captive, Beau Phil, who has consistently gone close and benefits from Cobden’s 5lb claim.
Punters Keen On Shamreen
There are 8 races at Gowran Park and a fascinating encounter for 3-year-old fillies, at 7.30. Shamreen looks the one to beat, following excellent performances in defeat at both the Curragh and Leopardstown (followed-up with a front-running victory, on this track). Siamsaiocht has impressed in black-type races and should push Dermot Weld’s horse, all the way.
Listed Encounter, In France
The Listed Prix de Montretout is the feature race at Maisons-Laffitte (France), with Leader Writer, Magneticjim and Siyoushake all taking on Hidemasa Nakao’s A Shin Erwin. Today’s South African action takes place at Greyville, with 9 races to look forward to.
