Draw Swords Can Be A Cut Above
Tuesday’s UK meetings are at Kempton, Ripon, Leicester and Wolverhampton. John Gosden’s Draw Swords makes his debut, in Kempton’s 3.15. Sired by Dansili, he’s out of a mare that has already produced a winner in Begum. Red Ensign and Al Hamdany look the biggest threats.
The 4.00 at Ripon will see Cote d’Azur chasing a 4th straight win. Mark Johnston’s Final is preferred, however. The Arabian Gleam gelding has put in some decent performances at Beverley, winning in both June and July. He’s raised 2lb, but Cote d’Azur has been given an 8lb hike. Pure Fantasy should also go close.
Cox’s Charge To Have Rivals All At Sea
Clive Cox’s Grey Galleon can sail away with the spoils, in the 5.40 at Leicester. He suffered an awkward first day at school, on debut at Windsor, before returning to the same racecourse last month and looking a transformed horse – getting the better of Tschierschen in a competitive finish. Shamsaya is a big danger, particularly with the talented Josephine Gordon claiming 3lb.
Mayasa takes on Blenheim Warrior, in the 7.30 at Wolverhampton and the latter is expected to hold sway. Richard Hughes’ inmate was unfortunate to lose out at Ffos Las and Mayasa faces a 5lb hike. Van Huysen can be a factor, despite a poor showing at Goodwood.
Tipperary’s card features 8 races and gets underway at 4.50, with a juvenile contest. None of the runners arrive with any great form in the book, although Twist Of Magic gave the impression that there was more to come, when showing decent pace in a strong maiden at the Curragh. The unraced Moyglass Ranger has a reasonable pedigree, but is best watched on debut.
