Shelley Can Write The Script, At Newcastle

With 6 UK meetings taking place on Thursday (plus 2 more in Ireland), there’s plenty for punters to get their teeth stuck into. Shelley Birkett has looked a little out of form of late, but this talented young jockey can put matters right on-board Nonagon in the 6.20 at Newcastle.

Brighton’s 4.00 is a 1m 2f contest for fillies, which will feature William Haggas’ Trainnah. Her win at Pontefract was a lot cosier than the half-length margin suggests and she’s taken to get the better of her rivals.

The 2.20 at Haydock is a 6f sprint for 2-year-olds and Haggas can strike once more here with Mubtasim. The Arcano juvenile won comfortably at Yarmouth on debut, despite edging left. Town Charter and Private Matter are also in contention.

There’s more action at Yarmouth on Thursday and another 2-year-old encounter gets matters underway at 2.10. Elementary, owned by Her Majesty the Queen, finds himself in a competitive affair as he attempts to shed his maiden tag at the 3rd time of asking. There were clear signs of improvement though, at Musselburgh and he’s the tentative pick.

Sandown’s 7.20 looks like being the race of the day, with all 5 runners in with a chance. Frankie Dettori partners Shahbar and the duo look capable of scoring again. Charlie Appleby’s Frontiersman looks the biggest threat.

John Gosden’s The Amber Fort didn’t enjoy a great deal of luck, on debut at Wolverhampton, but still finished 3rd of ten runners. The Elusive Quality colt will have learned much on his first day of school and returns to Wolves for the 4.55. He must go close.

Group Action, In Ireland

Leopardstown’s big race is the G3 Ballyroan Stakes (7.25). Bondi Beach has looked a class act for Aidan O’Brien and Shogun can help deliver a 1-2 for the leading flat trainer. There’s also 7 races on the card, at Sligo.
