Mas Appeal

Thursday’s card at Goodwood features 3 more Group contests, with the G2 Richmond Stakes scheduled for 2.35. Mehmas is one of the most exciting juveniles to have emerged this year and victory in the G2 July Stakes sets the Acclamation-sired horse up nicely to score again here, at the expense of Blue Point.

Big Orange Can Pip Rivals At The Post, Once More

The G2 Goodwood Cup, won by Big Orange in 2015, is at 3.10. The Duke Of Marmalade gelding returns to defend his crown and the partnership with Jamie Spencer is retained. The often-maligned jockey is more than just a hold-up rider and Big Orange raced prominently throughout, in last year’s encounter. The pair can triumph again with Pallasator, Curbyourenthusiasm and Sword Fighter the most likely challengers.

Yarrow Can Yield A Profit

Top fillies will then do battle, in the G3 Lillie Langtry Stakes (3.45). Sir Michael Stoute’s Yarrow initially struggled in black-type races, but 2nd place in the Listed Castle Stakes was definitely a step in the right direction. Ryan Moore is booked for the ride and the partnership was successful, at Leicester in May of last year. Winning a G3 race, after failing in 4 consecutive Listed affairs, is a huge ask but with Moore on-board, the Sea The Stars filly  might just pull it off.

Ray Of Hope

It’s a huge day at Galway, with the Listed Corrib Fillies Stakes taking place at 3.30. Rayisa has been performing well in handicaps and did finish 3rd in Listed company, at the Curragh, last October. She gets the nod.

The Grade A Galway Hurdle Handicap is at 4.45 and it will be fiercely competitive. Clondaw Warrior finished 3rd in the Queen Alexandra Stakes (Ascot) and has an excellent strike rate. He can win this, for Willie Mullins.
