Calare To Star At Sandown
Thursday’s 5 UK meetings are at Sandown, Worcester, Yarmouth, Doncaster and Newbury. The Listed Star Stakes is scheduled for 3.05, at Sandown. It’s a 7f encounter for 2-year-old fillies. Calare looked like an old-hand, when winning on debut at Doncaster and beating Conqueress by over 2 lengths. That form is working out nicely and Charlie Appleby’s Dubawi-sired inmate can secure black-type on just her 2nd outing. Grizzel and On Her Toes have also done enough to be in contention.
The 4.00 at Worcester is a 2m handicap hurdle and Team Skelton look well in with a chance of landing this one. Alcock And Brown has been in terrific form this season, winning 2 races and finishing runner-up in 2 more. The Oasis Dream gelding beat Echo Brava by almost 4-lengths and is taken to follow-up.

There’s another interesting juvenile contest at Yarmouth (2.10), where Grey Britain, Pranceleya and Quiet Moment all seek a first win. This one should be competitive, but it’s Grey Britain that we really like the look of. The Arcano colt hit trouble in-running, on debut, yet still finished 2nd and just a length behind Sea Fox. He can carry Jack Mitchell to the money.
Doncaster’s 7.55 is a 7f handicap for fillies, with a decent purse up for grabs. Sainted goes for William Haggas, in this race, with James Mcdonald booked for steering duties. The Dutch Art 3-year-old won with plenty in-hand, at Headquarters last time out. Battlement, Hawatif and Quick N Quirky are all threats though.
Just 3 runners will contest the 7.40 at Newbury, a 1m 2f conditions race. Red Napoleon is likely to start as the odds on favourite, but there are good reasons to oppose Ralph Beckett’s charge. The Gay Cavalier secured his 5th career victory at Epsom, beating the likes of Squire, Lord Reason and Dawn Mirage. Josephine Gordon has the ride and she’s emerged as one of the most gifted young jockeys on the circuit, this season. Gordon still claims 3lb and Red Napoleon showed very little, in the Ganton Stakes.
Listed Action At Leopardstown
It’s a big day at Leopardstown and Promise To Be True, Elusive Beauty and Take A Deep Breath will all contest the G3 Silver Flash Stakes (7.00). The G3 Tyros Stakes (7.35) is next up and Churchill will go off as the hot-favourite. There’s also 7 races at Limerick, where Sir Jack Yates is the blog’s pick for the 7.15.
