Mullins’ Charge In The Hotel

Ireland’s Galway Festival gets underway on Monday and the rich Connacht Hotel Handicap (7.20) is the feature. Renneti goes for Willie Mullins and the 7-year-old Irish Wells gelding is much better than his seasonal reappearance at the Curragh would suggest. Good performances in both the G3 Greatwood Hurdle and in another G3 encounter at Ascot, at the end of last year, indicate that he can run a big race. Benkei, Time To Inspire (Dermot Weld), Ted Veale and Rocongo should also get competitive.

A 7f contest for 2-year-olds gets things underway at Ayr, at 2.00. Despite him edging left, inside the final furlong, Proud Archi’s winning debut at Beverley was both assured and impressive. The Archipenko gelding is taken to follow-up, at the expense of both Permian and Heir Of Excitement.

The 3.20 at Newton Abbot is a Class 3 handicap hurdle and Paul Nicholls’ Vesperal Dream is an interesting contender. The French gelding is below his last winning mark and Jordan Williams claims a whopping 7lb. Miss Crick, Tzora and Billbushay should also go close.

Inclination The New Sensation

Windsor’s 7.00 is a qualifier for the Sprint Series Final (fillies) and Inclination continues her war with the handicapper. She’s now burdened with a stone more than when she won at Bath in May, but the 3-year-old looks progressive enough to win once again. Symposium and Shypen should also be in the shake-up.

The first 2 races on the card at Wolverhampton are for juveniles and the 6.10 will give us our first look at Wadood. Robert Cowell’s colt has an exciting pedigree and is a full brother to Seanie (a 2-year-old winner). Sired by Kodiac and out of Cakestown Lady, he can get off to a flyer and leave both Gerrard’s Return and Goodwood Cruiser to face further frustration in the departure lounge.

There’s Listed action in France, with Al Hayyah, Wanderina and Roche Rose amongst those contesting the Mme J.Couturie Stakes at Vichy. 10 races are on the card at Flamingo Park (South Africa).
