Johnston Debutant To Make His Mark

There are just 4 UK meetings, taking place on Monday. Ayr gets underway with a 7f contest for juveniles (2.00) and Mark Johnston could well strike again with a debutant. Alexander M is a Mastercraftsman colt and out of a dam called Naomh Geileis. She’s the mother of Assault on Rome (Holy Roman Emperor), a winner of 5 races of which 3 were at this distance. Hugo Palmer’s Aventinus looks the best of those that have already raced. He was beaten just a nose by Permian, at Kempton last month, over this trip.

The 3.45 at Chelmsford is a 5f sprint, for runners aged 3 and over. Krystallite looks decent each-way value, despite a poor performance at York. A line should be drawn through that performance, as she was returning from a significant layoff and shaped well when 5th at Lingfield in March. Dynamo Walt is the blog’s pick though. The Acclamation gelding has been knocking on the door for a while and Noel Garbutt claims 5lb.

Prendegast Hill Too Hot For Icebuster?

The final race (9.00) on Windsor’s 7-race card is a 1m 2f handicap and a tricky one for punters. Icebuster arrives with the best form, although there are concerns the 8-year-old won’t enjoy himself on the likely ground (good to firm). Prendergast Hill can hardly be described as consistent, but his best form should see him go very close in a race without any standout candidate.

There’s another opportunity to back a Mark Johnston 2-year-old on debut, in the 6.10 at Wolverhampton and there’s no reason that Geophony can’t also win at the first time of asking. The colt is sired by Canford Cliffs and the dam (Dawn Chorus) has progeny stats that are reasonably solid. She provided us with Hit The Lights (Lawman), a 6-time winner from 39 starts and all of her offspring have won at least one race. This is a weak-looking maiden auction contest and Franny Norton can bag himself another winner.

Listed Action At Killarney

There are 7 races at Killarney, where the Listed Cairn Rouge Stakes (6.50) is the feature. Earring finished just half-a-length behind Discipline, in the Listed Naas Oaks Trial and the progressive Dansili filly can land the spoils for Aidan O’Brien this evening.

The De L’artois Handicap is the opener at Compiegne and De Bon Alo, Cafe Royal, Bohemian Rapsody and Divin Leon all have strong claims. There are 10 races at Flamingo Park, in South Africa.
