Today’s Horse Racing Preview & Tips, Friday 8th July 2016

It’s Day 2 Of The Newmarket July Festival!

There are 8 encounters due to be broadcast on CH4 Racing, today. The team will be bringing you the pick of the action, from both Newmarket and York.

The 2.40 at Newmarket is a 1m handicap. The unexposed Blair House is of interest, but Fawaareq comes into this race with eye-catching form and won here at Headquarters last time out.

The 2.55 at York is a 5f handicap Celebration, Fredricka, Bogart, Bondi Beach Boy, Alpha Delphini, Lathom, Seve and Brother Tige all look treated well-enough to go close, but Thesme is the tentative blog pick. The filly has won twice on the Knavesmire and recently finished 2nd in the Scottish Sprint Cup, at Musselburgh.

Allow Yourself A Small Punt On Permission

Newmarket’s 3.10 is a 7f 3-year-old fillies’ handicap. Permission was unraced as a juvenile and only made her debut last month winning a relatively strong maiden here. James Fanshawe looks to be keeping his cards close to his chest, with this Authorized filly, who can take further advantage of Daniel Muscutt’s 3lb claim this afternoon.

Nasimi The Next Big Thing?

The first black-type race is the G2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes, at 3.45 (Newmarket). Every juvenile in the field has won at least one race, but Nasimi’s victory on debut at Haydock really caught the eye. Green out of the stalls, she gradually felt her way into the race and ran on very strongly at the finish. Richard Hannon’s Nations Alexander was beaten by 3 lengths and it’s likely that you’ll be hearing plenty about Nasimi, over the coming months.

Red Letter Day, For La Rioja

Next we’re off to york for the day’s feature, with the G3 Summer Stakes taking place at 4.00. A titanic duel is in store, with William Haggas’ Besharah taking on La Rioja. Both are 2015 Group winners that have yet to fully fire in this campaign, but the pair should be coming nicely to the boil right now. Mayfair Lady is also a contender, following victory in a classy handicap at York, last month.

Hope Springs Eternal, For Alice

Then it’s time for the race that everyone will be looking forward to, the G1 Falmouth Stakes (4.15, Newmarket). Most pundits are predicting a straight-forward coronation for Andre Fabre’s brilliant Duke of Cambridge Stakes winner, Usherette, but she may not have things all her own way. Alice Springs found trouble in-running, at Royal Ascot, but finished 3rd and just half-a-length behind Ballydoyle in the 1,000 Guineas. She’s a top-class 3-year-old and a Group 1 victory does not look beyond her.

York’s 4.30 is a Class 2 1m 4f handicap, in which Central Square can justify huge market-support. Roger Varian’s gelding has been excellent in this campaign, so far, winning 2 of his 3 races. He’s still unexposed and taken to beat Ralph Beckett’s charge, Argus.

The 4.45 at Newmarket is the final CH4 race of the day and it looks ultra-competitive and very tricky for punters. Banksea, Autocratic, Cartago and Vivre Pour Vivre should all go close, but High Grounds impressed on his handicap debut and can win today with Oisin Murphy on-board.

The other UK meetings are at Ascot, Musselburgh, Chepstow and Chester. There are evening cards at both Cork and Navan, where Glenamoy Lad is up against Giselle’s Charm in the 6.40. There’s also racing at Deauville and Fairview.
