Today’s Horse Racing Preview & Tips, Friday 5th August 2016

Dodgy Rogers To Rue Another Day

Friday’s UK meetings are at Brighton, Musselburgh, Wolverhampton, Haydock and Newmarket. The 4.00 at Musselburgh is a Class 2 handicap, featuring one of the disappointments of the current campaign – Steve Rodgers. He still has his fans and may well start as favourite, but Gabrial The Hero is preferred. There should be no shortage of pace and that will suit Richard Fahey’s inmate, just fine.

Brighton’s 3.40 is an opportunity for Just Be Lucky to make it 4 wins in 5 races. The Intense Focus gelding blotted his copybook at Carlisle, but bounced back to beat Smart Mover by a head at Catterick. Melabi looks the biggest danger.

JoGo Can Pogo To Further Heights

The opener at Wolverhampton (1.50) is a 5f race for 2-year-olds, with 4 jockeys claiming weight. Such has been the success, of Josephine Gordon, that she only gets 3lb but her partnership with Zebspear can hit the target. The Zebedee colt won comfortably at Ffos Las and (even though he was one of just 3 runners) he looks capable of carrying Gordon to another victory.

Shesthedream was unraced as a juvenile, but she has been gradually getting into her stride in the current campaign. David O’Meara’s Dream Ahead filly lost out by just a neck at Leicester and she’s clearly a progressive sort. One more heave, in the 7.55 at Haydock, can do it.

Dazzling Rose won last time out at Newmarket, on just her second appearance and with Frankie Dettori booked to steer she can follow-up in the 7.45 at Headquarters. John Gosden’s Raven’s Pass 3-year-old made short work of Labyrinth, 3 weeks ago and she gets the nod ahead of Charlie Appleby’s City Chic.

Capri Getting Into Gear

The Listed Canford Cliffs Stakes (5.55) tops the bill at Tipperary and it will be a surprise if at least one of the 7 runners does not emerge as a major player, over the next 12 months or so. Aidan O’Brien’s Capri finished runner-up in a very strong maiden, on his debut at the Curragh and it was no surprise when he then won comfortably at Galway. Intern poses the biggest threat.
