A Flurry Of Races, On Friday

It’s a hugely busy Friday, with 6 UK meetings – a couple of which feature Listed action.

Goodwood gets underway at 1.50, with a 5f race for 2-year-olds. Latest Quest showed good speed before finding it all a bit much, on debut at Newbury. The mother of Peachey Carnehan won over a mile, but Zaatar has the fastest pedigree and looks the pick of the debutants.

Doyle Can Be Top Cat, In The Hat

The Listed Cocked Hat Stakes is at 3.30. This race was won by Storm The Stars, in 2015. Just 4 runners will enter the stalls and Algometer’s connections will be disappointed if the David Simcock-trained horse fails to land the spoils. However, finishing as runner-up to Midterm (in the G3 Sandown Classic Trial) suddenly doesn’t look such eye-catching form. Prize Money can build upon an excellent performance at Newmarket and win with James Doyle on-board.

Bet At Goodwood Now

There are 6 races at Haydock and the Listed Achilles Stakes should be an absolute corker! Cotai Glory, Take Cover, Out Do, Encore d’Or and Kingsgate Native all take on Roger Varian’s Double Up who will be piloted by Andrea Atzeni. Double up performed very well, in handicaps last year, scoring at Newmarket, Nottingham and Ascot.

The 2.30 at Carlisle looks a great opportunity for one of the debutants to get off the mark at the very first time of asking. Bellamy, Jester Spirit and Hope Against Hope have all run once, without impressing a great deal. Vatican Hill looks worth a small punt, given his entries in valuable sales races.

Inland Sea Can Sink Rivals

A 5f handicap for 3-year-olds takes place at Wolverhampton, at 4.20. Mutarajjil, Sir Dudley, Symposium and Another Boy should all go close, but Richard Hannon’s Inland Sea appears to have the edge. He missed out, by just a neck, on handicap debut and does not look unfairly treated.

The 6.40 at Catterick is a 5f contest for juveniles and Wheneverwecan looks likely to remain at the top of the market. Mark Johnston’s runner is penalised for winning at Musselburgh, though, so it’s tempting to look elsewhere for better value. Ann Duffield’s Poppy Pivot was certainly well-beaten, when runner-up at Catterick, but the filly improved massively on her debut run and is taken to progress further.

Super Marito Can Land Rich Hunters’ Chase

£14,990 is on offer for first place in the Stratford Foxhunters Champion Hunters’ Chase (7.50), so don’t turn your nose up at this one! German runner, Marito, is in the form of his life and can beat 2014 champion Paint The Clouds. Paul Nicholls will be represented by Pacha Du Polder, but his inmate needs to improve significantly on recent efforts.

The 6.35 at Cork looks a bit of a puzzle, for punters, with the handicapper looking to have made few mistakes. Charlies Missile, Jenniechild, Candelaria, Leath Na Hoibre and Off And On look in with a good chance. Victorious Secret appears to have bags of early pace and was unfortunate to lose at Dundalk, so the Holy Roman Emperor filly gets a reluctant nod.

Redclue looks to be on a winnable mark and can get the better of both Lash It On and Camillas Wish, in the 7.55 at Downpatrick. A flat race brings matters to a close, at 8.55.

Return Of The Maq

The big race at Chantilly (France) is the G3 Prix Vanteaux. Vincent Cheminaud is booked to ride Andre Fabre’s Maquette and the partnership may prove too much for Dourdana, who also won on debut.

There are 2 South African meetings, with Fairview’s being somewhat overshadowed by a big day at Greyville. Intergalactic and Gallica Rose each have an excellent chance in the Listed Kra East Coast Cup. That encounter will be immediately followed by the G2 Betting World 1900. Solid Speed has proven to be amongst the most versatile horses in the country and Anthony Delpech can steer the 5-year-old to another victory.
