Mo For The Money
Today’s UK meetings are at Haydock, Nottingham, Newmarket, Pontefract, Hamilton and also at Newbury where there’s Listed action at 3.40. The Rose Bowl Stakes is an important contest for 2-year-olds and Tasleet won this, last season, with Paul Hanagan on-board. Hanagan will partner the Simon Crisford trained Mokarris, this time around and there’s every reason to believe he can repeat the success. The Coventry Stakes came too early for him, but he’s still prefered to both Miss Infinity and Legendary Lunch.
Haydock’s 4.25 is a handicap for 3-year-olds and all 4 runners look in with a shout. West Coast Flyer looks marginally to have the edge, after staying on well to win at Newcastle. Oisin Murphy has been given the ride by David Simcock.
Ab Fab
The 4.35 at Nottingham looks another good opportunity for Ruth Carr and Abushamah is taken to get the better of Poet’s Beauty (who is likely to improve, this year) and Marcano, the latter of whom failed to perform in this class of race last time out. Abushamah won convincingly at Redcar and can follow up.
There’s action at Newmarket this evening and a decent purse is on offer for the 7.20. Connections of Ornate, a horse trained by William Haggas, will be quietly confident – particularly with Ryan Moore booked for steering duties. Ornate finished 3rd in the Listed Scurry Stakes, on his last appearance and should go well.
The 7.30 is the first of 2 consecutive Class 3 encounters at Pontefract and an each-way bet on Lexington Place looks the value here. The Compton Place gelding certainly had a bad day at the office, at Ayr last week, but was victorious before that at the same racecourse. He’s a useful handicap horse that looks overpriced, unless something has seriously gone amiss.
Gosden’s Got A Good One
The Listed Glasgow Stakes (8.15) is the feature at Hamilton and John Gosden will have high hopes for Wajeez, who will be ridden by Dane O’Neill. The Lope De Vega colt won by 7 lengths, on debut at Nottingham and this one could be a real star of the future.
The Midlands National Handicap Chase (8.30) tops the bill at Kilbeggan. Down Under takes on Joseph O’Brien’s Carriganog, in what should be a real thriller. There are 8 races on the card at both Chateaubriant and Fairview.
