A competitive-looking 7f contest gets matters underway. Cases can be made for Alareef, King Cole, Raven’s Corner and Bochart.
3:05pm – Balanchine Sponsored By Citizen K Group 2 Stakes – Turf
Saeed bin Suroor’s Very Special was well-named and appears to be the one to beat, in this 1m 1f encounter. The 5-year-old was too good for Mick Channon’s Opal Tiara, in January. (10% stakes bonus offered on this race)
3:40pm – Watch Time Handicap – Dirt
Shaishee has tasted defeat 4 times in 2017, already, but the handicapper looks to have been very sympathetic and he’ll go-off on a very winnable mark. Raafid looks the biggest threat.
4:15pm – Meydan Sprint Sponsored By Friday Group 3 Stakes – Turf
This looks like being the best race on the card, with Jungle Cat, The Happy Prince, Caspian Prince and Moviesta all taking on Al Quoz Sprint runner-up Ertijaal. (10% stakes bonus offered on this race)
4:50pm – Zabeel Mile Sponsored By Gulf News Group 2 Stakes – Turf
Hugo Palmer will be represented in this race, although Gifted Master hasn’t scored since winning the G3 Pavilion Stakes at Ascot. He was runner-up in the G2 Joel Stakes, at Headquarters in September though, so don’t rule the Kodiac-sired gelding out. (10% stakes bonus offered on this race)
5:25pm – InsideOut Handicap – Dirt
UK Champion Jockey Jim Crowley has been booked to ride Nathr, an American horse who never quite lived up to expectations in conditions races. Nathr has been successful in handicaps though and is preferred to both American Hope and Heavy Metal.
6:00pm – Dubai Millennium Stakes Sponsored By Wheels Group 3 Stakes – Turf
The final race on the card looks a tricky one for punters, but Promising Run has done enough to just about get the nod. She benefits from an allowance and won a G2 contest, just last month. Earnshaw also appeals, although the 6-year-old has been expensive to back previously. (10% stakes bonus offered on this race)
Racing At Meydan
Meydan racecourse is a superb equine-racing venue, which is owned by the Dubai Racing Club. It was only opened in March, 2010. Needless to say, it is a state-of-the-art flat-racing course, which attracts some of the top breeders, trainers, jockeys and owners in the world.
It features a stunning grandstand, which is a mile in length. This building will also house a horse racing museum, a gallery, plus various business and conference facilities (development is still ongoing).
On top of that, there is a golf course (9 holes), a stunning marina and a 5-star hotel. which has nearly 300 rooms. Meydan has two separate tracks, both of which are left-handed. The first is a 2400m turf track. The other is shorter, at just 1750m. The shorter track is synthetic and suitable for all-weather racing.
Meydan quickly established itself as one of the most important horse racing venues, in the world. The owners introduced the Dubai International Racing Carnival, the Winter Racing Challenge and the Dubai World Cup Night. There is no date in the global racing calendar that can compare with the Dubai World Cup meeting. On one single day, over $26m is awarded in prize money.
