Solvalla Racecourse is in the Bromma district of Stockholm and is the most important Scandinavian harness-racing venue. It is the home of the world-famous Elitloppet, which is amongst the richest and prestigious trotting races to take place.
We already have a live ante-post betting market, for the 2017 renewal. Horses expected to feature include Bold Eagle, Nuncio, Delicious U.S., Resolve, Propulsion and Timoko.
It is a Group 1 fixture and entry is strictly by invitation. 16 horses race in heats and only eight will make it to the final. Always held on the final Sunday in May, there is a 5,250,000 SEK purse on offer for this one mile contest.
Solvalla also holds the Swedish Trotting Criterium, where 6 heats are run and the horses are competing for 12 berths in the final.
The Oaks
The Swedish Trotting Oaks uses the same heats structure. This is an event for fillies and it takes place in October. The Jubilieumspokalen is another Group 1 race and entry is either achieved by invitation or through qualification races.
Taby Racecourse is a gallop venue, which is sited about 10 miles to the north of Stockholm. It is the top track of its kind in Scandinavia and the design lends heavily from American circuits. Built in 1960, fixtures are held here throughout the year as Taby is able to stage races under floodlights.
Only the dirt track is used in the winter months. It is one mile in length and runs left-handed. On the inside of the dirt course is a shorter turf track. It also has courses for steeplechases and hurdling.
Racing At Aby
Aby Racecourse is just outside of Stockholm and was opened in the mid-1930s. It is used for standardbred harness racing, although gallop events were held here until 1976.
There are a number of important races that are held here. They include the Drottning Silvias Pokal, the Konung Gustaf V:s Pokal, the Aby Stora Pris and the Olympiatravet.
There are many other racetracks in Sweden, such as Trav Gavleborg, Visby Travbana, Dala Travet, Umaker Travet, Kalmar Travbana, Ostersund Travbana, Romme Travbana, Arena Dannero, Axevalla Travbana, Mojligheternas Arena, Orebro Travet, Halmstad Travet, Arena Amalstravet, Sundbyholm Racing Track, Stromsholm Gallop, Goteborg Gallop and Jagersro Galopp.
