Sunday Racing Tips, 14th August 2016

After a great Saturdays racing todays featured races are “corkers” particularly the one that gets us under way the Jacques Le Marios from Deauville. We may also see this years Melbourne Cup winner in Germany and a female sprint champion may be emerging at Pontefract.

2:55 Deauville – Prix du Haras de Fresnay-Le-Buffard – Jacques Le Marois (Group 1) (3yo+ No Geldings) (Str) (Turf) 1m

This is a fabulous race. The best milers in Europe all line up on decent ground and we get to see the 3yo generation take on their elders.

The winner could come fron any one of sixe horses. The least likely is probably Spectre but this filly gets all the allowances and wasn’t far away last time out in a Group 1. Vadamos will have his suporters for Andre Fabre after winning a group 3 to show he is back and running Solow so close last year. He clearly has ability enough to take a hand in this race. Ervedya has been beaten by the Fabre but she might just be running in to top form now as her trainer Jean Claude Rouget has targeted a later campaign and this could be a marker for that. Sormy Antartic out ran his price as we predicted when placing last time out and showing he is getting back to hgis best for Ed walker and he is a lively outsider. That brings us to the top two Gallileo Gold who has triumphed in 3 group1 races already and takes on the Fahey trained Ribchester again having beaten him at Goodwood. Richard Fahey is keen for the re-match and thinks his colt has come on for the run and is talking confidently. Who are we to ignore that. At the prices its these two against the field.

3:40 Hoppegarten – 126 Longines Grosser Preis von Berlin (Group 1) (3yo+) (Turf) 1m4f

This group 1 includes the 2014 Melbourne Cup winner, Protectionist who triumphed last time out in the Group2 in Hamburg to show he is back to his best. Nightflower who was beaten a length and half in the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks at Haydock when we tipped her up and a fascinating Polish Group 1 unbeaten 3yo called Cacinni. This Polish colt has only raced on soft ground but his pedigree suggests he will go on better ground and maybe even better for it. He is the unknown factor and it will be great to see how Polish Group form holds up.

It has to be Protectionst who is a world wide class act.

3:45 Pontefract – EBF Stallions Highfield Farm Flying Fillies´ Stakes (Listed Race) Cl1 6f

Some quality sprint fillies here. Mayfair Lady was very impressive when winning a C2 handicap at York when she dotted up but really let the side down when getting trounced in a listed race at the same track by Ridge Ranger who reopposes in this race. Ridge Ranger was stunning that day and had no right to stay on and win at York when flying down the track. She won her race in the wrong side at Goodwood in her latest run and can be forgiven that. La Rioja has won here and is talented, well drawn and very inviting. We always say believe your eyes and despite having to give weight all round in this listed contest we cant forget how stunning Ridge Ranger was from the front at York and this track suits front runners.

4:10 Deauville – Prix Minerve (Group 3) (3yo Fillies) (Turf) 1m4f110y

This fillies group 3 will be one by one of these 3. Impressionist for Andre Fabre who was denied by a short margin at Saint Cloud in a Group 2 last time out and recorded a career best, Khaleesy who is an improving filly who was narrowly beaten in a listed contest over 2 furlongs shorter and looked to be crying out for further and Golden Valentine for Freddie Head who has triumphed in listed company over this trip and failed narrowly in Group company at the same. For us its Andre Fabre
