As the Racing Post reported earlier this week, three fantastic charities will be benefiting from the skill and foresight of top racing industry insiders now that the flat season has come to an end!
At the beginning of the flat season, we invited 7 industry experts to pick the leading domestic first-season sire of 2017. We gave each one £50 to place as a charity bet, on our exclusive first-season sire market. 3 of the 7 picked the winner – Society Rock, who was priced at 7/1!
Trainer Karl Burke, Tom Goff of Blandford Bloodstock and the agent Oliver St Lawrence all backed the stallion, who was an outstanding sprinter until his retirement in 2013. This means that much-needed funds will be added to the coffers of Macmillan Cancer Support, the Injured Jockeys Fund and Racing Welfare. All of these institutions do amazing work and we know that the money will be well-spent.
With 22 victories from 63 runners, Society Rock was the clear winner. Lethal Force (18 wins), Havana Gold (16 wins), Red Jazz (15 wins) and Epaulette (15 wins) ran him closest. All 5 look set to have a big say in the future of UK flat racing and it will be fascinating to see how their progeny develop.
We would like to thank everybody for taking part and we hope you will all keep an eye out for our 2018 leading first-season sire market, which will be launched in the next few weeks.
