The Singapore Turf Club

Founded in the mid-19th century, the Singapore Turf Club thrives to this day. This is the only equine racing club in Singapore and it comes under the umbrella of the Malayan Racing Association.

Racing has been taking place here, officially, since 1843. The first ever race offered a purse of just $150. For most of the twentieth century, the racing took place at the Bukit Timah track. The move to Kranji came in 1999 and this put the track right next to the main MRT railway station, making it much easier for people to reach.

2 Meetings, Each Week

Horse racing in Singapore is staged twice a week – on Fridays and Sundays. There are around a hundred races each year and virtually all are only open to horses that are trained locally. The only exceptions are the KrisFlyer International Sprint and the Singapore International Airlines International Cup.

These are both G1 races. The Singapore Airlines International Cup has a purse of S$3million, while the prize-fund for the KrisFlyer International Sprint is around a third of that. These events form the main focus of the yearly Singapore International Racing Festival.

However, it is the Longines Singapore Cup which is considered to be the most prestigious encounter. This takes place in November and is a 2200m handicap for horses aged 3 years and above.

Australia/New Zealand Connections

No breeding takes place here and the horses have all been imported from other countries. Most come from Australia or New Zealand, with a relatively small amount being sent from Germany, USA, South Africa, France, Japan, Great Britain and Ireland. About half of the trainers are local, with the remainder being expats.

As for the jockeys, nearly all are born and raised in Singapore, although a few are from overseas.  Other important fixtures include the Kranji Mile and the Raffles Cup. These 3 events triangulate to form the Singapore Triple Crown.

Betting With RaceBets

At RaceBets, we take Asian horse racing very seriously and that is why we offer such a comprehensive range of markets for events taking place across the continent. Indian racing is becoming very popular and you can bet on the action on most days of the year.

Many of the world’s top horses are bred and owned in Dubai, which now offers some of the richest purses in the sport. We offer markets for all of the big races at Meydan and across the UAE.

On top of this, you can also bet on the action in Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Macau. Beyond Asia, you will also find daily markets for meetings in the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, South Africa, France and many other countries. Racing is now very much a global concern and we want to bring you the very best of it.
