The likes of Ajman Princess, Alf Guinness, Dubka, Signe and Yorkidding will contest the Daisy Warwick Stakes (2:05pm), while Intimation, Laugh Aloud, Bahaarah, Materialistic, Uele River and Glitter Girl will be among the runners in the Conqueror Stakes (3:50pm).

Quintessentially English

Goodwood is just to the north of the beautiful town of Chichester, in the heart of West Sussex. The Duke of Richmond and his family run this famous old racecourse. It is best known for the Glorious Goodwood Festival, which takes place in the British summertime. This is extremely popular with spectators and there are two G1 races to look forward to each year. These are the Sussex Stakes and the Nassau Stakes.

Goodwood is regarded as being England’s most beautiful racecourses and amongst the most attractive in the World. Fog can sometimes present difficulties, as the course is very close to the sea. A natural grandstand is formed by the banks of an old fort, which is located nearby.

The Stewards Cup Course

The layout of the course is rather complicated, with extra tracks having been added on over the years. The Stewards Cup Course is just a straight of 6 furlongs. The runners and riders climb over the first furlong, before embarking on a gradual descent over the rest of the race.

At the start of the Stewards Cup Course, there are a number of starting points over a tight bend that lie behind it. It is on this bend that 3 other courses begin at. They are the Craven Course (1m 2f), the Gratwicke Course (1m 4f) and the Bentinck Course (1m 6f). There is one other course and this begins close to the winning post. The Cup Course is 2m 5f in length. This provides a very demanding test for stayers, as the loop is full of peaks, troughs and acute turns.

Big Goodwood Races

Major races held here include the Foundation Stakes, the Glorious Stakes, the Goodwood Cup, the Height Of Fashion Stakes, the Celebration Mile, the Cocked Hat Stakes, the Festival Stakes and the Molecomb Stakes.

In addition to these, the Starlit Stakes, the Supreme Stakes, the Nassau Stakes, the Oak Tree Stakes, the On The House Stakes, the Prestige Stakes, the Richmond Stakes, the King George Stakes, the Lennox Stakes, the Lillie Langtree Stakes, the March Stakes, the Tapster Stakes, the Thoroughbred Stakes, the Vintage Stakes and the Select Stakes are also held at Goodwood.
