At the Cheltenham Festival, you will find the most talented horses from Great Britain, Ireland and from overseas. In March, Gloucestershire is the only place to be and the famous festival goes from strength to strength, each year.

The Cheltenham Festival has now been running for over one hundred and fifty years. However, it’s origins can be traced back to Market Harborough, in Leicestershire, where the first National Hunt Chase was held.
Cheltenham’s Biggest Race
The Cheltenham Gold Cup, the most famous and most-coveted of the meeting’s trophies, was established in 1924. The Champion Hurdle was added, three years after this date. It is only recently that the Cheltenham Festival was extended to four days in length. Previously it was a three day meeting. The decision to make the festival one day longer was only taken in 2005.
The new timetable allowed the organisers to add a number of important races. Now, Cheltenham holds many group one races, such as the Champion Bumper, the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, the RSA Chase, the Queen Mother Champion Chase and many more.
Festival Schedule
There are 4 days of racing, starting on Tuesday March 14 and ending on Friday March 17. On each day there will be 7 races and all will be high-quality affairs, featuring the best jumpers in the sport. You’ll be able to watch every race live on terrestrial television.
