Picks From The Paddock Best Bet – Wednesday 19th December

13:15 Lingfield

Jason Watson’s appointment as new stable jockey for the Roger Charlton yard has the whole racing world on notice and he might just have a statement winner here today at Lingfield to prove why he landed the job. Watson takes the mount on Saeed Bin Suroor trained, Blue Mountain, who goes handicapping for the first time here and looks a sure-fire improver. He will need to improve on recent displays to land this but always looked one to improve for the step into handicap company having been gelded since his last run and the champion apprentice looks primed to steer him to victory today. The main danger will likely come from Keith Dalgleish’s runner Woodside Wonder who comes here looking to follow up under a penalty having romped away from the re-opposing Times Past by four lengths. Adam Kirby is booked so a bold bid is on the cards but this is a step up in class and he may be vulnerable to the unexposed Godolphin runner who gets the nod.

BLUE MOUNTAIN (WIN) – NAP

18:30 Dundalk

The Joseph O’Brien team have continued their fantastic flat season into the all-weather campaign and are perhaps the in-form yard at Dundalk this term. They look to have another exciting 2yo to campaign this winter with Grandmaster Flash, who was a well-supported favourite on debut last time out when going down 1/2 a length in second. He was staying on all the time that day towards the line and is immediately stepped up to a mile in the hope of going one better here and he is the confident selection to get that job done here with his rider’s valuable five-pound claim further enhancing his chances. The main danger will come from Champion jockey Colin Keane who looks to carry a penalty on Mick Halford’s Playa del Puente, who won his race in nice fashion last time out but will have to be very special to concede 10lb to the O’Brien runner.
