Nigel Twiston-Davies has sent six hurdlers to Carlisle in the last three years and has emerged with five winners for an 83% winning strike rate. He looks to have a great chance of enhancing that record even further today with One For Rosie who beat a subsequent winner (Glen Forsa) in commanding fashion last month, travelling noticeably stronger than rivals and having enough left in the tank to win going away despite a clumsy jump at the last. He should be capable of defying his penalty based on that evidence and can give his trainer another victory at a course he does so well at.
Donald McCain Jnr has had five winners from his last twelve runners so the main danger looks to be First Account who was a solid third behind two subsequent winners on hurdles debut – one being Al Dancer who was a very impressive winner at Cheltenham on Friday. A winner over three miles in a point-to-point, he should improve for the step up in trip and can follow home our selection.

Aspen Colorado is unbeaten in two since joining Jonjo O’’Neill, with both victories coming here at Carlisle. He steps up in trip off an 8lbs higher mark but still carries a nice racing weight of 11-2 and has winning form on good, soft and heavy ground. Furthermore, Aidan Coleman has won five from eight in the last three years over hurdles at the course (two of which came aboard Aspen Colorado) and makes the trip for this one ride so I am hoping for a big run and in doing so bring up the hat-trick.
Top-weight Kris Spin won his last two before being put away for the summer and now returns from an eight-month absence off a 5lbs higher mark. He doesn’t have the best record fresh and his trainer has struggled for form so far this season so he is probably best watched today.
A final mention goes to Mac N Cheese who will appreciate the return to hurdles and arrives here for a trainer in fantastic form. Racing off bottom-weight he could be the biggest danger to our selection.
