There are many websites on the internet, which offer tips for horse racing. Most are free, but the majority will charge a subscription to members. We would advise everybody to take caution, before giving money to any person, or organisation, that is offering to sell tips.
As there is no barrier to entry, or recognised qualification, anyone can set themselves up as a racing tipster. The only way you can really judge them is to look at their track-record. Are they successful? If so, how long have they been successful for? Did they ever suffer a prolonged period of losing money? Do they have a database, containing a detailed report of all their previous bets and results? Can you be totally sure that it is not just somebody who is trying their luck? There is a great deal to consider and you should scrutinise the people who are asking for your money, very carefully.
If you want to become a successful horse racing bettor, then you really need to study the sport. This will take you a very long time, but if you are passionate about racing then it is something you are going to enjoy.
Newspaper Racing Tips
If you don’t feel that you have the time to do this, then you will probably find free racing tips in your daily newspaper. Usually, the newspaper tipster will give you their preferred selection for every race. They should also tell you which is their NAP tip for the day. This will be the horse that they think has the best chance of winning, out of all of the races and all of the meetings. If you see a horse with a (NB) symbol next to it, that will be the tipsters ‘next best’ selection. Some tipsters also have one ‘treble’ selection. In this instance, the tipster is advising you that their selections for a threefold accumulation bet are the NAP, the ‘next best’ and the treble tip.
Once again, you will need to do some research. Some newspaper tipsters are successful and some are not. There are various websites that track their tips and you should not have difficulty in finding them, on the internet.
Starting-Price Bets
Newspaper tips do not usually come with advised prices. The price of each horse, in a race, will obviously fluctuate, prior to the race taking place. However, if you choose to take the starting-price, you do not need to worry about backing a horse at fixed odds and finding that a better price was available, after your bet had been placed.
