Donald McCain Blog – Weekend Runners

Donald McCain

It’s been a good start to the jumps season for the Bankhouse team with two winners already notched up. It’s going to be all hands on deck this weekend with X runners at our local track Bangor on Saturday and another X runners on Sunday.

I have some nice horses running that just never got a chance last season and I’d be hoping for a winner or two. All of my thoughts on each runner can be read below, along with my best chance of the weekend.

Silver Character
Track: Bangor – 1:40
Jockey: Brian Hughes

He won on the flat last year and looked like a horse that would go forward from that but he lost his way a bit. We have had a few niggles with him but he’s ready to get started and has schooled ok. I’m sure he’ll come on for the run and is a nice type of horse by a good sire.

Track: Bangor – 2:50
Jockey: Brian Hughes

He’s probably looking like he wants a bit further but he ran a nice race for me the last day at Haydock, which was a step in the right direction and hopefully he improves again.

Derintoher Yank

Derintoher Yank
Track: Bangor – 3:25
Jockey: Brian Hughes

A horse that’s a little bit in-between two and two and a half miles, to be honest. He’s run well at Bangor before and it’s the lowest grade he can run in so he has to go there with a chance.

Track: Bangor – 4:00
Jockey: Brian Hughes

This trip is probably going to stretch his stamina and it looked like he didn’t quite stay the 3 miles the last day but the winner turned out to be quite good. It’s a nice starting point and it’ll tell us where we are with him.

Track: Bangor – 4:35
Jockey: Will Kennedy

He’s been running ok of late and with this race being for novices it gives him a chance. He’s progressing slowly with each run and this is the right type of race for him.

Doctor Jazz
Track: Uttoxeter – 5:50
Jockey: Danny McMenamin

The step up in trip and drop down should help him here and in truth, he’s been disappointing. I’m expecting a better run here and hopefully, we can make a plan from there.

The Cattlejobber
Track: Uttoxeter – 8:20
Jockey: Henry Brooke

He wasn’t been well for most of the winter and hasn’t shown a whole pile at home but he’s ready to get started. I don’t tend to start horses over three miles but there is a small field and he needs to run.

Court Jurado
Track: Uttoxeter – 8:50
Jockey: Brian Hughes

He’s similar to Armattiekan in that he is just progressing quietly and looks like he is going to want further but I don’t want to go further yet because he’s finished tamely a couple of times.

The Herds Garden

The Herds Garden
Track: Market Rasen – 2:15
Jockey: Abbie McCain

We nearly went to Bangor with him but he sneaks in here and it’s right-handed over two miles which is probably right up his street. I don’t particularly have a lot of luck at the track but it’s the right sort of race.

Black Key
Track: Market Rasen – 4:00
Jockey: Brian Hughes

I think he needs to come down another bit in the handicap before he’s competitive. He got a right wallop for coming over, this is the lowest grade he can run in so it’s a stepping stone.

Best Chance: Armattiekan
