Donald McCain Blog – Weekend Runners

We drew a blank on Boxing Day which was slightly disappointing but it’s far from the be-all and end-all. We look forward rather than back and I have eight runners over the weekend, some of them with leading chances. You can read my thoughts on all the runners below:

Saturday

Pinch Of Ginger
Track: Catterick – 12:10
Jockey: Lorcan Murtagh

It’s not that hard of a race with Micky Hammonds probably the one to beat but two and a half around there should suit him well with it being the worst race he’s run in.

Quart De Garde
Track: Catterick – 12:45
Jockey: Henry Brooke

He’s quite a busy and hot type at home and I think he probably wants a bit better ground but we need to get him started and see where we are with him. He wears the hood so hopefully that’ll help him settle.

Lightening Dance
Track: Catterick – 1:55
Jockey: Henry Brooke

I thought he ran well at Aintree but this is a competitive sort of race. She seems to be getting stronger all the time at home and her work is solid so based on that she should run well and we’ll learn a bit more.

Shabba Daba Do
Track: Catterick – 1:55
Jockey: Harrison Beswick

She ran no race the first day but I think she’s a mare with a bit of ability. It time she’ll want further than this.

Sunday

Same Circus

Same Circus
Track: Doncaster – 11:55
Jockey: Lorcan Murtagh

It’s a competitive race without being brilliant. After her run at Bangor a couple of weeks ago Brian was annoyed with himself that he didn’t go fast enough. She’s run well at Doncaster before and I’d be hoping for a big run.

Val Mome
Track: Doncaster – 3:20
Jockey: Lorcan Murtagh

He’s a good ground horse that’ll take a couple of runs to come right I think. He picked up an injury last year and we just want to get him back on track.

Bright Side Oflife
Track: Kelso – 11:45
Jockey: Brian Hughes

She’s a massive mare and I’m sure she’ll come on a bit for the run again. We are getting a bit of consistency into her training for the first time and this run should ut her spot on.

Birch Vale
Track: Kelso – 12:15
Jockey: Brian Hughes

She’s fairly handicapped in my opinion and although there are lots of runners the trip will suit and it’s against her same-sex, s she must have a chance.

Best Chance: Pinch Of Ginger
