Donald McCain Blog – Weekend Runners

It’s been a pretty good week at Bankhouse with two winners and I was particularly happy with Graceland yesterday at Stratford yesterday. It’s busy today at Bangor where Black Key might be down to a winnable mark.

I have four runners over the weekend at Doncaster and Market Rasen, with all my views on the runners below

Horse: Double Esprit
Track: Doncaster – 3:30
Jockey: Kevin Stott

He’s been a little bit immature at home and obviously, the plan is to go juvenile hurdling with him, but first, we need to teach him how to race before sending him over obstacles.

Horse: Youracert
Track: Market Rasen – 1:50

Jockey: Brian Hughes

I was disappointed with him at Hexham where he travelled well to the bottom of the hill but just didn’t get up it. He wasn’t the first and won’t be the last horse this happened to, so we will ride him a little bit more sensible tomorrow. He’s been working well at home and he should run a good race.

Horse: Carry On
Track: Market Rasen – 2:25
Jockey: Brian Hughes

He’s a nice horse but he needs to learn to chill out a bit. He won his bumper over a mile and a half so the two miles has just been catching him out. So we are going to go back to basics and teach him to race the right way around instead of back to front. If he settles then he’d have a chance.

Horse: Handy Hollow
Track: Market Rasen – 4:05
Jockey: Lorcan Murtagh

He’s a grand horse and the handicapper probably has him on a fair mark. It’s the lowest grade I can get him in and three miles around Market Rasen should suit him fine, so he should run ok.

Best Chance: Youracert
