Donald McCain Blog – Weekend Runners

Donald McCain

It’s an unusually busy weekend at Bankhouse, where I actually have three runners on the flat on Saturday. It was another good week for the yard with Graceland winning nicely. It’s early days in the season but I’m happy with how things are going and we could possibly have another winner or two this weekend. You can read my views on all the runners below:

Saturday

Tawseef
Track: Redcar – 2:05
Jockey: Ella McCain

There is one or two in here which look ok, you have Jennie Candlish horse that won the Lanzarote but if the ground isn’t too quick then he should go close. The trip is on the sharp side for him but it’s the right grade and he’s in good form.

Witness In Court
Track: Perth – 2:20
Jockey: Brian Hughes

He’d have a chance going back into handicaps after being hunter chasing. He was wrong at the weights the last day but he ran ok. He is fit and well along with having Perth form so I’d be hoping for a nice run.

William Of Orange
Track: Perth – 4:50
Jockey: Brian Hughes
William Of Orange

There is a slight query going right handed but that’s probably balanced out by the type of race it is. It’s not a strong race and he’s got a chance.

Gabriel Oak
Track: Haydock – 6:30
Jockey: Paul Mulrennan

He’s a grand horse, who is very tall, leggy, immature type but he’ll be going juvenile hurdling soon, so we just needed to start him off somewhere. He goes nicely at home so I’d be looking for a nice run and we can work from there.

Our Rodney
Track: Haydock – 9:00
Jockey: Ella McCain

It didn’t work out over hurdles the last day at Hexham where he was too free and he got a fright. So we are just trying to regroup with him here and get him back on track. He’d probably like it to dry up slightly and come down a bit in the weights but he should run a nice race.

Sunday

Nefyn Bay
Track: Hexham – 3:15
Jockey: Lorcan Murtagh
Nefyn Bay

He has been of the track for quite a while and he always needs one or two runs to get him right, so we will just get him started.

Morraman
Track: Hexham – 3:15
Jockey: Abbie McCain

He has been running really well of late and hopefully, it’s drying out. I thought he was going to win the last day but probably didn’t get home on soft ground at Cartmel. It’s a competitive type of race but he is in good nick and isn’t without a chance.

Silver Character
Track: Hexham – 4:25
Jockey: Henry Brooke

In truth, he didn’t take to it at all the first day, where he got the fright of his life, so we are just trying to get him going in the right direction. He didn’t jump or travel that day, so we just need to get some experience into him.

Youracert
Track: Hexham – 4:25
Jockey: Brian Hughes

I’m happy with him and he looks like a nice type. There are couple in here with form but if he takes to Hexham then he should run well.

Bannixtown Glory
Track: Hexham – 4:45
Jockey: Will Kennedy

She’s a grand mare who’ll probably need a bit further than this in time but it’s mares only and looks like a nice starting point for her. It looks competitive without any standout stars and she has done plenty at home.

Best Chance: Youracert
