Donald McCain Blog – New Year’s Day Runners

It’s been a slightly frustrating Christmas period with lots of seconds including the bumper horse Kiriglote, who flew home yesterday. Onwards on upwards though and hopefully, the new year will bring us new luck. We have eight runners across two meetings with lots of chances throughout the day. You can read my thoughts on all the runners below:C

Word Has It
Track: Catterick – 12:25
Jockey: Henry Brooke

He was running a nice race at Bangor where he just took a false step. There are a couple in there that are obviously ok but he’s ready to start and hopefully, we will get a good experience into him as the first day couldn’t have gone any worse.

Nefyn Point
Track: Catterick – 1:00
Jockey: Abbie McCain

I think he is in the stronger of the two division but he must have a chance. The trip, track and ground all should be fine so he must go close.

Knock House
Track: Musselburgh – 1:05
Jockey: Brian Hughes

Knock House

We have been targeting this race for a while with him as it’s right-handed, in drying ground and it’s three miles. He ran ok on ground that was way too soft for him at Carlisle and I’m expecting a big run.

Craig Star
Track: Catterick – 1:35
Jockey: Lorcan Murtagh

I think the trip is going to be on the sharp side for him, but we need to get a run into him and there will be other days for him.

Pull Green
Track: Catterick – 2:10
Jockey: Henry Brooke

I pleased to see him win there the last day as he had travelled well and didn’t get home at Carlisle. Look he’s got to carry a penalty and there are a few in the race that look ok but he’s going the right way and should run his race.

Gabriel Oak
Track: Catterick – 2:10
Jockey: Lorcan Murtagh

He’s been disappointing over hurdles and he’s had his wind done since his last run over timber. I ran him on the level earlier in the month where he ran ok but he needs to start showing us something.

Knockrobin
Track: Catterick – 2:45
Jockey: Lorcan Murtagh

He’s coming back in trip with a pair of blinkers on and we were looking for two miles five, on nicer ground somewhere but if he puts his best foot forward he should be thereabouts.

Devito’sredrobin
Track: Catterick – 3:20
Jockey: Harrison Beswick

In truth, she’s been a bit disappointing and pulled up on seasonal debut at Bangor. She would have needed that run and should show more now but she needs to.M

Best Chance: Knock House
