Donald McCain – Bangor & Chepstow Runners Guide

Donald McCain

It’s a very busy day on Friday with lots of runners at one of my local tracks; Bangor and then two heading for Chepstow. I’ll be staying close to home where it looks like we’ve got a few live chances of a winner.

My thoughts on all my runners can be read below and with so many runners, it could be all you need for a good day on Friday.

Bangor

4:40 – Conditional Jockey’s Handicap Chase

I run Thyne For Gold here and the 2 1/2 mile trip should really suit him. He’s been running solidly all year and won over the course and distance already this season. He’ll be heading to the sales in May so it’s my last chance to run him and he’s got a chance.

5:10 – Bangor Novices’ Hurdle

I’ve got two in this and let’s start with Constancio who is a little bit tricky and although on ratings he shouldn’t be winning, I think Bangor will really suit him and he’s better than he showed on his last run. If he clicks he’ll win!

Court Juardo just seems to be going the right way and we just want to get a run into him. He seems to be improving from run to run and he’s just quietly going the right way. I think we will just drop him in and get him to finish his race off well.

5:40 – Firewalk Handicap Hurdle

Danceintothelight

I only have the four runners in this race! I’d love to see Danceintothelight get his head in front as I think he deserves it. He’s a grand old horse that wears his heart on his sleeve and should be right there going to the last but I think being realistic it’ll be hard to beat Dan’s horse.

Of the others, Capmonfor hasn’t really shown a whole amount, to be honest, Whiteoak Stroller is coming back after getting a very very heavy fall the last day and I’d just like to see her jump around and get some confidence back. Finally, Armattiekan actually ran ok the last and seems to be improving and hopefully, he keeps on progressing.

7:20 – Bangor Handicap Chase

Mahler Lad has got the ability to go and win it but whether Bangor really plays to his strengths I’m not convinced, as there is a lot of turning which means a lot of chances to find himself out of the race. The trip and grade are absolutely spot on but it’s just a matter of if he turns up on the day.

7:50 – Mares’ National Hunt Race

It looks quite competitive on paper but Takingitallin is a very solid mare who I didn’t want to run over hurdles this season so we will wait three weeks and then start over them. I think Bangor will suit her better than Sedgefield did the last day and although it is never easy to carry a penalty in a bumper, she’s got a chance.

The other mare Artichoke Heart will also be going hurdling very soon. She surprised me the first day and then it was quite a good race the next time she ran. So we will just get a run into her with an eye on going hurdling soon.

Chepstow

5:50 – Braceys Maiden Hurdle

In all honesty, we are just trying to see if Super Mac has any ability? He was very disappointing on his first two runs but showed a glimmer of promise the last day so I hope he can back it up and show some potential.

8:00 – Trade Windows Handicap Hurdle

The Character ran well on his first run back and I’m hoping it was just the bounce factor the last day. His work has been solid and with the trip and grade in his favour, he should go close.

Best Chance: Constancio
