The Home Of National Hunt Racing
Cheltenham Racecourse is located at Prestbury Park, in Cheltenham (in the West Country). The racecourse enjoys a beautiful location just beneath the Cotswold Hills, at Cleeve Hill. This incredible race course has a capacity of almost seventy thousand spectators. Cheltenham also has its very own steam railway station.
Cheltenham has two separate courses which run alongside each other. They are referred to as either the Old Course or the New Course. The New Course is notorious for the very difficult downhill fence, as well as the long and gruelling run-in. When there are hurdles races taking place on this course (and the distance is in excess of two and a half miles), virtually all of the fences are negotiated in the early part of the race. Over the final seven furlongs, just two hurdles require jumping. In addition to the two main courses, a lesser-used cross-country course is also available at Cheltenham.
Cheltenham has recently undergone a major redevelopment, costing almost fifty million pounds. It is now a state-of-the-art facility and amongst the best jumps racecourses in the World.
