If you want an expert tipster’s Channel 4 racing tips, then you have come to the right place. Every Saturday our resident tipster, Harry Redmond, meticulously analyses each Channel 4 televised race to pinpoint the horses he believes will come out on top.
There are 7 races televised on Channel 4 this Saturday, 14th May, 2016 starting at 2:45pm taking in action at Newbury and Newmarket.
The feature race this Saturday is the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes taking place at Newbury, 4:10pm GMT.
Here are Harry’s selections;
2.45 Newbury – Carnachy
The going is expected to be soft in Newbury for Saturday’s racing so we will be looking for proven performers on the surface. Odds-on favourite, Eagle Top, can be opposed in this race for this very reason. Therefore, progressive 4-year-old Carnachy is the value bet in this race (currently trading at around 4/1, with able pilot Ryan Moore on board).
3.00 Newmarket – Poyle Thomas
This race looks wide open and it’s very difficult to back the favourite here, as he’s unproven both the ground and the trip. He’s also stepping up in class. There are question-marks over most of the runners and Poyle Thomas may very well be worth a punt at 10/1, as the going should suit him perfectly. He has never won class 2 handicap, but this field looks weak enough for him to capitalise on.
3.20 Newbury – Remarkable
John Gosden’s stables are in flying form and Remarkable looks the one to beat, in this race. He’s suited by the going and is on an upward curve. Gosden must think a great deal of this horse, as he has a G1 July Cup entry. Expect a huge run from Remarkable, in this contest.
3.35 Newmarket – Thikriyaat
It is hard to see past the favourite, Thikriyaat, in the Listed King Charles II Stakes. This 3-year-old has a 100% strike rate from two starts. Even though this colt has never raced on good to firm before, his pedigree suggests that it will not be an issue. Every other runner in this encounter looks as exposed as it’s possible for a 3-year-old to be. Therefore, Thikriyaat is the only viable choice.
3.55 Newbury – Kodi Bear
The G1 Lockinge Stakes is the day’s feature and should be an absolute cracker. If the ground stays soft, then Kodi Bear looks the value bet here. He won on his seasonal reappearance last year, and is the only horse at the top end of the market that looks certain to handle the going. Clive Cox regards him as one of the best horses he has ever trained, so Kodi Bear seems well worth a punt at 9/2.
4.10 Newmarket – Venturous
This is a fairly competitive class 2 3-year-old handicap and the favourite is definitely opposable. This is his seasonal reappearance and if past performances are anything to go by, he’ll need a run to get race fit. Therefore, Venturous is an attractive price at 9/2. Charlie Appleby and Adam Kirby combine well and have a strike rate of 30%. In addition to this, Appleby has won 7 of his last 25 races and his stable is on fire. Venturous should have no issue with this course. He’ll relish the going and will be suited to the trip.
4.30 Newbury – Good Run
7 of the last 10 renewals of this race have been won by horses priced at 7/1 or less, so it should pay to concentrate on the top-end of the market. Good Run should live up to his name and race strongly. This runner has proven himself on soft going and has progressed every time he’s been asked to step up in trip (as he will be, once again, today). With James Doyle on board, Good Run can be expected to go very close.
