Živa Prunk has taken time out from railing aginst the Austrian racing industry and will be represented by Pretorian. German horses are still expected to dominate proceedings, however and Daring Match, Forgino and Donnerschlag all look to be in with a realistic shout.
Bavarian Classic (Munich)
Group 3 For 3 year olds
Distance: 2,000m
Purse: 55,000 EUR
This race is one of the most-important Derby Trials of the campaign and Markus Klug will be very-well represented. Kastano and Northsea Star are both expected to go close, but this looks a competitive renewal and Andreas Wöhler also has a handy brace of contenders in Warring States and Nerud.
History Of The Bavarian Classic
The race was first run in 1969, although it was originally called the Preis des Kaufhauses Hertie. In 1970 it became the Grosser Hertie-Preis and G2 status was awarded in 1977.
In 2004, it was downgraded to G3 level and renamed as the Bavarian Classic. Heinz Jentzsch won the race on no less than 10 occasions, firstly with – Boris (1972) and lastly with Vialli (1994).
The great Monsun landed the spoils for him, in 1993. The Gestüt Isarland-bred horse (a 4-time Champion Sire) would go on to win the Preis von Europa and Gerling-Preis, in the same season.
