Age: 3 (Foaled February 25th, 2014)
Sex: Colt
Breeding: Bodemeister (USA) – Above Perfection (USA) (In Excess)
Trainer: Todd Pletcher
Owner: Meb Racing, Brooklyn Boyz, Teresa Viola, St Elias, Siena Farm And West Point
Todd Pletcher is planning to take his charge to Baltimore early, giving the horse plenty of time to his new surroundings.
“At Pimlico, there’s generally not a lot of horses training there,” he said. “It will be a quiet environment, give us time to get him settled in and if we have to make any adjustments, we’ll have time to do that.”, he told reporters.
The much-admired colt raced just twice for Dominick Schettino, before joining Todd Pletcher. He won the Kentucky Derby, on Saturday, with a turn of foot that really caught the eye. Always Dreaming has put himself very-much on the box-seat.
Classic Empire (USA)
Age: 3 (Foaled March 21st, 2014)
Sex: Bay Colt
Breeding: Pioneerof the Nile (USA) – Sambuca Classica (USA) (Cat Thief (USA))
Trainer: Mark Casse
Owner: John Oxley
Mark Casse wants this one to run in the Preakness, but much will depend on how quickly he can recover from the Derby.
“A lot of it is just going to be how quickly his eye can come around. He also got cut up quite a bit yesterday,” Casse said. “He looks a bit like Muhammad Ali after a rough night.
“Believe me, after yesterday I’d like another crack at everybody because he had a trip from hell. (Jockey) Julien (Leparoux) said he didn’t know how he stayed up, he got hit so hard.”
Very little went right for Classic Empire, in the Derby, so punters should not be too discouraged with his 4th place finish.
Lookin At Lee (USA)
Age: 3 (Foaled March 7th, 2014)
Sex: Bay Colt
Breeding: Lookin At Lucky (USA) – Langara Lass (USA) (Langfuhr (USA))
Trainer: Steven Asmussen
Owner: L And N Racing Llc
He finished runner-up in the Kentucky Derby, despite remaining friendless in the market.
“He gives you a lot of confidence,” Asmussen added. “He just keeps coming. He doesn’t hesitate. I thought (jockey) Corey (Lanerie) was a great fit for him and did a wonderful job. He got a dream run. He got his chance. He ran well to the wire. We’re very fortunate to have him.”, said trainer Steve Asmussen afterwards.
If Lookin At Lee does start, then he’ll be a serious contender.
A Quick Guide To The Preakness Stakes
For those of you that don’t already know, the Preakness Stakes is one of the most important races in North-America. The Pimlico Racecourse is in Baltimore. Both colts and geldings can compete and the distance is 9.5 furlongs. The Preakness is sandwiched between the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes, in America’s Triple Crown. You can bet on all 3 of these historic races, right here at RaceBets.
The Preakness Stakes attracts more spectators than any other US race, other than the Kentucky Derby. The race was first run in the 1870s. Traditionally, the winner of the race wears a garland of yellow flowers. The purse is around $1.5m.
Preakness was the aptly-named colt from the Preakness Stables in Wayne County, which is in New Jersey. The race was named in the horse’s honour. Make sure that you get your bets on, in time for one of the biggest US races of the year!
