Happy Like A Fool (USA)

Age: 2 (Foaled April 12th, 2015)

Sex: Chestnut Filly

Breeding: Distorted Humor (USA) – Lastofthsummerwine (USA) (Sky Mesa (USA))

Trainer: Wesley Ward

Owner: Wesley Ward

Wesley Ward won last year’s race with Lady Aurelia and looks to have a great chance of defending his crown with this Distorted Humor sired filly. She won a special weight maiden on debut at Keeneland and it will be a shock if she doesn’t start the race as favourite.

Neola

Age: 2 (Foaled February 6th, 2015)

Sex: Bay Filly

Breeding: Effie B (Sixties Icon)

Trainer: M R Channon

Owner: Bastian Family

Mick Channon’s charge looked pretty ordinary, on debut at Nottingham, but returned to the East Midlands racecourse transformed and was 7 lengths too good for Richard Hannon’s Lexington Grace. She was just edged out of it by Main Desire, a very-useful looking horse, in the Marygate Fillies’ Stakes at York but may not be up against anything quite so talented in this race.

Rebel Assault (IRE)

Age: 2 (Foaled April 13th, 2015)

Sex: Bay Filly

Breeding: Excelebration (IRE) – Naomh Geileis (USA) (Grand Slam (USA))

Trainer: M Johnston

Owner: Mrs Christine E Budden & Partners

This one is more-likely to appeal to each-way backers, but the form of her victory over Magic Applause at Catterick was given a boost when George Scott’s inmate won well at Lingfield next time out. This is a huge step-up for the Excelebration-filly, though.

Other horses in contention include Out Of The Flames, Fairyland, Actress, Yogi’s Girl and Keith Dalgleish’s Cheeseandpickle.

Race History

This encounter was first held in 1921, when it was won by Wild Mint. It has been a G2 fixture, since 2004. The race is a 5f sprint and this year’s purse will be around £110,000.

The list of former winners is truly something to behold. Recent champions include Maqaasid, Rizeena and Acapulco. The likes of Sun Chariot, Waterloo, Lyric Fantasy and Queen’s Logic also won the Queen Mary, before going on to scale even-greater heights. This is a very-important race and too good to miss!
