Age: 3 (Foaled March 8th, 2014)
Sex: Bay Colt
Breeding: Frankel – Sand Vixen (Dubawi (IRE))
Trainer: S bin Suroor
Owner: Godolphin
Won on debut at Doncaster, in a maiden that was pretty weak, before finishing runner-up in the Greenham Stakes to Barney Roy. The form of that 2-length defeat was boosted by the winner’s 2nd-place in the 2000 Guineas and connections will probably believe their charge scored a par with 5th-place in the same race. Looks at least capable of winning a G3 contest, such a this.
Le Brivido (FR)
Age: 3 (Foaled April 3rd, 2014)
Sex: Bay Colt
Breeding: Siyouni (FR) – (Dr Fong (USA))
Trainer: A Fabre
Owner: HRH Prince Faisal Bin Khaled
Made just a single appearance, as a 2-year-old, winning a 3 horse maiden at Chantilly when a marginal odds-on shot. Andre Fabre had clearly seen enough to feel confident and he was proved correct when his inmate came 2nd in the G1 Essai Poulains (finishing ahead of the mighty Rivet). That Deauville performance will certainly have gotten the attention of punters and his next outing will be eagerly anticipated.
Daban (IRE)
Age: 3 (Foaled February 10th, 2014)
Sex: Bay Filly
Breeding: Acclamation – Malaspina (IRE) (Whipper (USA))
Trainer: J H M Gosden
Owner: Abdullah Saeed Al Naboodah
The Acclamation filly won on debut, although the favourite Alouja barely showed-up on the day. Dettori Group race backers then enjoyed a bumper payout, when the partnership scooped the Nell Gwyn Stakes at a whopping 12/1. Daban finished 3rd in the 1000 Guineas and just a neck behind Rhododendron. Faded towards the finish though and a drop back to 7f could well appeal to John Gosden.
This is one of the most-prestigious G3 encounters of the campaign and punters are also pawing at Lancaster Bomber, Taamol, Larchmont Lad and Zainhom.
Race History
The Jersey Stakes replaced the 2nd leg of the Triennial Stakes, in 1919, a race won by the likes of Blair Athol. Jannette and Polymelus. Ribchester won this last year, despite carrying a 5lb penalty for being a G2 champion.
Sir Michael Stoute has enjoyed plenty of success, in this race for 3-year-olds. He’s the only trainer to have picked-up 5 winners – Etienne Gerard (1977), Hard Fought (1980), Zilzal (1989), Among Men (1997) and Jeremy (2006).
