The Listed Chesham Stakes will be renewed at Royal Ascot, on Saturday June 24th. You can already bet on our ante-post market and here are 3 horses that are attracting plenty of bets…
Age: 2 (Foaled April 16th, 2015)
Sex: Chestnut Colt
Breeding: New Approach (IRE) – Khawlah (IRE) (Cape Cross (IRE))
Trainer: C Appleby
Charlie Appleby’s New Approach-sired colt has only raced once, but narrowly shed his maiden tag on debut at Goodwood. William Buick bided his time and was happy to race at the rear of the field. Minor traffic problems were encountered, approaching the 1f marker, but Masar proved just a little too good for Invincible Army. Looks like another top Godolphin prospect.
Age: 2 (Foaled April 17th, 2015)
Sex: Bay Colt
Breeding: Frankel – Arabesque (Zafonic (USA))
Trainer: J H M Gosden
Owner: Mr K Abdullah
The Frankel colt finished runner-up on debut at Newbury and John Gosden retained Frankie Dettori for his 2nd appearance, at Leicester. Westerland started as a very-short-priced favourite and connections will have been sweating, as Hey Gaman pushed him all the way but Dettori’s class in the saddle told and victory was secured by just a nose. Needs to step-up now, though.
Age: 2 (Foaled February 21st, 2015)
Sex: Bay Filly
Breeding: Deep Impact (JPN) – Peeping Fawn (USA) (Danehill (USA))
Trainer: A P O’Brien
Owner: Mrs John Magnier,Mr M Tabor & Mr D Smith
Aidan O’Brien’s inmate only made her debut at Leopardstown a couple of weeks ago, in a 7f maiden on yielding ground. The Deep Impact-sired filly went-off as a 9/2 joint favourite, along with stablemate Easter Lily, but she made a mockery of those odds and finished over 5 lengths ahead of the field. She’s out of quadruple G1-winning mare, Peeping Fawn, so it’s no surprise that some are already talking of her as a potential Oaks winner.
We’ll know much more about all of the runners in this race when it’s over, but punters also like the look of Clemmie, Black Sails and Snowflakes.
This contest was established in 1919 and was originally a 5f affair (now 7f). Frankie Dettori is the only jockey to have ridden 4 winners. Important winners include Bakharoff, Minstrella, Be My Chief, Maybe and the 2016 champion Churchill.
