Alpha Centauri (IRE)

Age: 2 (Foaled January 1st, 2015)

Sex: Filly

Breeding: Mastercraftsman (IRE) – (Rahy (USA))

Trainer: Mrs J Harrington

Owner: Niarchos Family

Jessica Harrington’s charge has quickly come to the attention of racing fans, following a brace of taking performances at Naas. An easy victory over Aidan O’Brien’s Actress, got the filly on a roll and when the pair met again in the Listed Fillies’ Sprint Stakes (21st May) the Mastercraftsman-sired runner won by an even bigger margin.

September (IRE)

Age: 2 (Foaled January 1st, 2015)

Sex: Bay Filly

Breeding: Deep Impact (JPN) – Peeping Fawn (USA) (Danehill (USA))

Trainer: A P O’Brien

Owner: Mrs John Magnier & Michael Tabor & Derrick Smith

She’s only had one outing, so far, but punters are already getting into a spin over Aidan O’Brien’s inmate. She started that race, which took place at Leopardstown only a few days ago, as joint-favourite with stablemate Easter Lily but September destroyed the entire field and looked to have plenty to spare.

Gasta (IRE)

Age: 2 (Foaled January 1st, 2015)

Sex: Bay Filly

Breeding: Vocalised (USA) – Buille Cliste (IRE) (Smart Strike (CAN))

Trainer: J S Bolger

Owner: Mrs J S Bolger

Jim Bolger’s filly was sired by Vocalised and she gave connections plenty to shout about after narrowly beating Joseph O’Brien’s Now You’re Talking on debut at Naas. She returned to the County Kildare track and was runner-up in a competitive race on ground that was heavy in places. She won’t be expected to encounter conditions like that again and we’ll know much more about her after her next outing.

Other horses that are attracting bets include Fairyland, Natural, Tajaanus, Black Sails and Jamie Osborne’s Armum.

Race History

This contest was only established in 2002 and G3 status wsn’t awarded until 2005. Samitar took the spoils for Mick Channon (who has already won this on 3 occasions) in 2011, before going on to win the Tattersalls Millions 2yo Fillies’ Trophy, the Irish 1000 Guineas and the Garden City Stakes.

Last year’s winner was Brave Anna, who also won the Cheveley Park Stakes before being named the top-rated European-trained two-year-old filly of 2016. Jamie Spencer has 4 victories under his belt, in the Albany. La Chunga partnered him in 2005 and he also scored with Nijoom Dubai (2007), Samitar (2011) and Kiyoshi (2013).
